Currently, the global lithium battery recycling rate is less than 10%. However, rare metals such as lithium, cobalt, and nickel contained in batteries have extremely high recycling value, making the establishment of large-scale recycling plants both economically and environmentally beneficial.

Current Situation and Demand
China, as the world's largest producer and consumer of lithium batteries, produces over 500,000 tons of scrapped batteries annually. Policies are mandating that automakers and battery manufacturers assume recycling responsibilities, promoting the development of a standardized recycling system. Recycling plants with an hourly capacity of 1,000 kg (equivalent to 24 tons per day) are becoming the mainstream in the market, meeting the needs of regional centralized processing.
System Configuration
Achieving an output of 1,000 kg per hour requires a fully automated production line:
Deep discharge system: Using brine immersion and specialized discharge equipment
Coarse crushing module: Dual-shaft shear crusher (2,000 x 2,000 mm feed opening)
Sorting system: Cyclone separator + vibrating screen + magnetic separator
Hydrometallurgy module: Three continuous leaching reactors (10 m³/unit)
Extraction equipment: Centrifugal extractor + precipitation crystallization unit
The total power of the core equipment is approximately 1,800 kW, requiring a plant area of ​​at least 3,000 square meters.
Process Flow
Whole battery pack → Deep discharge → Mechanical disassembly → Primary crushing → Pyrolysis (400°C) → Secondary pulverization → Particle size sorting → Magnetic separation → Copper and aluminum recovery → Black powder collection → Acid leaching for lithium extraction → Solvent extraction → Lithium carbonate/lithium hydroxide crystallization
Final product
Positive electrode black powder: Contains lithium, cobalt, nickel, and other valuable metals, sent to the refining plant
Lithium carbonate/lithium hydroxide: Battery-grade purity ≥ 99.5%
Copper and aluminum foil: Purity above 98%, sold directly
Plastic casing: Crushed and granulated for recycling
Electrolyte: Recovers organic solvents such as DMC
The total investment for this type of plant is approximately 120-150 million yuan, with an annual processing capacity of 8,000 tons and a metal recovery rate exceeding 95%. The investment is expected to pay back in 3-5 years. As recycling technology matures and economies of scale emerge, lithium battery recycling will become one of the most valuable links in the new energy industry chain.
