E-waste covers discarded electrical and electronic products, mainly including household appliances such as old mobile phones, computers, televisions, refrigerators, and industrial electronic equipment. According to the United Nations, the world produces about 53.6 million tons of e-waste each year, but the formal recycling rate is less than 20%. As a major consumer of electronic products, China has produced more than 6 million tons of e-waste annually, and it is growing at a rate of 10% per year. These e-wastes contain precious metals such as gold, silver, and copper, as well as harmful substances such as lead and mercury. Improper handling will seriously pollute the environment.

Modern e-waste processing lines are composed of multiple specialized equipment: the crushing and sorting system separates plastics and metals through multi-stage crushing and airflow sorting; the eddy current sorter can efficiently extract non-ferrous metals; the electrostatic sorting equipment accurately separates mixed metal powders; the precious metal refining system uses hydrometallurgical technology to extract rare metals such as gold and silver. The intelligent production line is also equipped with automatic identification and sorting robots to greatly improve the sorting accuracy.
After being processed by professional equipment, electronic waste can be converted into a variety of renewable resources: the metal part can be used to extract basic metals such as copper and aluminum and precious metals such as gold and palladium; plastic particles can be used to make new product shells; glass components can be recycled to regenerate cathode ray tubes or building materials. A used mobile phone can extract 0.03 grams of gold, which is dozens of times the grade of gold mines, and can be called an "urban mine".
The electronic waste recycling industry has both significant economic value and environmental benefits. In terms of economy, precious metal recycling can create considerable profits, and the value of raw materials in global electronic waste exceeds US$57 billion per year. In terms of environmental protection, formal recycling can avoid harmful substances from polluting soil and water sources, while reducing mineral mining. Every 10,000 tons of used mobile phones recycled is equivalent to reducing 35,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions. With the advancement of the construction of "zero-waste cities", electronic waste recycling equipment is becoming an important support for the circular economy, and in the future, intelligent and harmless treatment technologies will further enhance the value of the industry.
