With the rapid development of the automotive industry, millions of discarded windshields are generated worldwide each year. These glass products contain PVB interlayers, posing significant challenges to traditional disposal methods. Currently, most discarded windshields are still disposed of in landfills, which not only consumes significant land resources but also poses long-term environmental risks due to the polymers they contain. According to statistics, over 20 million automotive windshields are discarded annually in North America alone. Enabling environmentally friendly recycling has become a key issue in the circular economy.

Our professional windshield recycling equipment features a modular design and consists primarily of a pretreatment system, a crushing unit, a pyrolysis separation unit, and a fine sorting system. The equipment's core technology lies in a low-temperature pyrolysis process that effectively decomposes the PVB interlayer at temperatures of 280-350°C while maintaining the integrity of the glass substrate. The entire system utilizes automated control, with a daily processing capacity of 8-10 tons, a glass recovery rate exceeding 95%, and a PVB material recovery rate exceeding 90%, fully meeting the needs of industrial production.
The windshield recycling process consists of four key steps: first, the metal frame is removed manually or mechanically and initially cleaned; then, the glass enters a multi-stage crushing system to reduce it to a specified particle size; then, the PVB interlayer is decomposed in a closed pyrolysis furnace; and finally, vibratory screening and air flow separation are used to completely separate the glass from the PVB. Comprehensive dust removal and exhaust gas treatment equipment are installed throughout the entire process to ensure compliance with environmental standards.
The recycled materials have a wide range of reusable properties. Pure glass granules can be directly used in the manufacture of new windshields or used as raw materials for products such as glass microbeads and glass fiber. Modified PVB materials can be used to manufacture products such as anti-slip floor mats and composite panels. Recycling one ton of windshields saves 1.2 tons of virgin material and reduces carbon emissions by approximately 0.8 tons. With increasingly stringent environmental regulations and rising resource prices, the windshield recycling industry is experiencing rapid growth, and market demand for related technologies and equipment is expected to continue to grow.
